(b.1971) The American flutist Jennifer Borkowski distinguishes her comprehensive career with her combination of unique training and experience as a concert soloist and teacher. In addition to her busy work as a respected flutist, both in the United States and Europe, Jennifer Borkowski has become one of the very few specialists in the world in recent years, combining sport science and music pedagogy with the theme "Musician's Stamina."

 

Her recently released debut solo CD, released by NAXOS of AMERICA, is titled 'COMPOSED'. The CD not only reflects the multifaceted musicality of the flutist as a performer, but also presents the artist as a composer for the first time. Her compositional focus - the musical symbiosis between flute and electronics - is the focus.

 

Jennifer Borkowski's repertoire is as extensive and varied as her musical interests. In addition to the classical repertoire for flute, she has put her focus on contemporary music. Both as a flutist and as a composer, she experiments intensely in the creative process of highly dissonant, yet nevertheless soothing sounds - with flute and electronics.

Her highly targeted training and many years of experience make her a highly regarded musician of this genre, far beyond the American and Austrian borders. She has been involved in countless CD productions of contemporary music recordings and has participated in several world premieres of operas and symphonic works.

 

Her concert career has taken her from the USA to Europe; for example, numerous appearances with Harvard Pro Musica, USA, Boston University Center for New Music, as well as the highlights of her previous career, as well as concerts with renowned ensembles in the field of contemporary music, such as the Klangforum Wien, the Ensemble Zeitfluss Graz, Vienna Nova (founding member), Ensemble Resonanz with Johannes Kalitzke, and many more. She has also recorded works with Peter Ablinger and others.

 

Before moving to Europe, she was also a member of several American orchestras, such as the Riverside Symphony, the Princeton Symphony, the Haddonfield Symphony, and the Jubilate Deo Orchestra which performed at Carnegie Hall.

 

Jennifer Borkowski regularly gives master classes or guest classes for students, such as at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz for students of Dieter Flury and Herbert Weissberg or at Yale University in the USA.

 

As an author, Jennifer Borkowski is one of the few people worldwide who has published a book, articles and contributions to anthologies on the topic of musician's stamina, such as "Issues of stamina in new music", "Periodization and Peak Performance: It's in" the timing "or" Modernizing Practice Paradigms for New Music; Periodization Theory and Peak Performance Exemplified by Extruded Techniques for Flute ". In addition to her regular activity as a writer, Jennifer Borkowski also gives lectures at several prestigious music institutions, as well as conferences, for example at the Superar General Assembly, the Sistema Europe General Assembly, at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, at the University Mozarteum or the Longy School of Music Cambridge.

 

Jennifer Borkowski studied instrumental and vocal pedagogy (Dr. phil) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, as well as concert flute (Mag. Art.) With Herbert Weissberg, also at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. She also graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in flute at the University of Arts Philadelphia with Julius Baker. She credits her awakening into modern music to Robert dick, with whom she studied in New York City in 1999. 

 

She is also the winner of numerous competitions, such as the first prize of the concert competition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Oberschützen), the Lake Placid School of the Arts Competition, the S. Powell Middleton Competition and the Ruth Hirschhorn Grant (Yale University).

Her compositional focus - the musical symbiosis between flute and electronics, often with highly dissonant, yet soothing sounds – is the focus. 

 

Jennifer Borkowski regularly performs with renowned ensembles, has recorded CDs of contemporary music and regularly participates in world premieres of operas and symphonic works. She also gives masterclasses and guest classes for students at prestigious universities in Europe and the USA.

 

Jennifer Borkowski graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in flute at the University of Arts Philadelphia. She also studied instrumental and vocal pedagogy, as well as concert flute at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.

 

She has won numerous competitions in both the US and Europe.
